What is the name of this series of books? it was kidren's sci-fi, around in the 60s or so?
It was a series of sci-fi books with the main 'hero' being james, who was like 9 or 10. he built a rocket in his backyard and flew to the moon. other stories were a time machine, a submarine and going to mars and such.

Is it the wonderful flight to the mushroom planet by eleanor cameron? it's about boys who build a rocket ship, was published in the 1950s, and it looks like there were several sequels to it. there is
a new edition of it available on amazon.
